Memorial Day Weekend

Driving around Houston requires concentration... you don't want to be where you are in this picture and realize you need to be on the freeway that is 5 stories above you and to the right. This hasn't happened to me yet though... there are lots of signs and they give you advance notice (although it's in miles).

On Sunday I went to my first Louisiana style crawfish boil in H-town suburbia. It's similar to an east coast lobster boil only they're hundreds of the crustations. They boil them in a giant pot with the seasoning (spices, peppers, onions, potatoes, mushrooms, cob-corn) and dump 'em on the table. Then everyone takes turns standing at the table gorging themselves. It's awesome. The rest of the evening consists of beers, swimming (almost everyone has a pool in suburbia), and chillin'. Thanks to Mark for letting me tag along.

You'll also notice the orange 'longhorn' shirts... In Texas any piece of clothing in this shade of orange or with the longhorn logo is acceptable attire at any event. On the golf course, downtown, crawfish boils, and casual Fridays at work.

Also popular in the suburbs... State of Texas shaped flagstones on your lawn .

Nice! It is kinda like camping, but at home ... Pie, MJ and I headed out for Rayman's stag on the weekend. Rained and never got over 5 degree C. Spent the weekend wet, cold and muddy ... It is amazing what the human body can endure with rum and fire ball.
